----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the guts of my post - For September the challenge was picked by the Challenge #8 champs DELICIOUS DOODLES! They chose the theme: METAL MANIA.

Metal is not a medium that I'm very comfortable with, but I love the look of it! The first thing that came to mind for me was "steampunk". So - i rolled with it. Here are some pictures and details of my creation. Since I created a little book there are TONS of pics :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little more detail if you're interested:
I happen to have the Vintaj machine so I used some of my dies to create some cool steampunk patters on some metal blanks. I've been wanting to do metalwork for a long time and have been collecting little bits here and there but have yet to really learn how to do anything amazing with it. I did a second set like the one below and painted them really cool with some patina paints and then didn't get to use them because they didn't match anything else in the project. It was a shame, but I'm sure I'll use them sooner or later!

For the cover....I had a shiny goldish paper that i used to cover some cardboard pieces that i cut from a box. Then i used a gear/cog stencil and my dylusions spray inks to create the cool background.

For the pages, I used toilet tissue rolls that were flattened and then covered them in graphic 45 papers. I used some distress inks, goosebumps sprays, and some metallic ink pads to make them really look great. Each page has an insert that can be pulled out. I learned this from Shell's awesome new group "Cheapskate Crafter" on the Smeared & Smudged Forum. THANKS SHELL! It was so much fun!!

After I punched all my holes I used a really cool textured paper to make the book spine and them embellished it with my metal bits.

I also attached the buckles to be used to belt the book and hold it closed.

Got this awesome rose cameo from Horribell and painted it with my metallic ink pads.

I used bronze, gold, and copper.

The stamps I used are the Toxic Ballerina and Toxic Twins from Smeared Ink. They are not released yet but will be soon! They were colored with Copics and highlighted with a white gel pen.

OK, I think that's most of the details and pretty much all of the pics....I won't go into too much more detail about all the stuff, but if you have questions I will be happy to answer them! I hope you like it and really hope you come back to vote!!

Smeared & Smudged Design Team Throwdown #7

Here we go folks! We're already on our 7th Design Team Throwdown at Smeared and Smudged!
Our Theme is:

CHUNKY ATC

This time around we were to embrace the chunk!

I created my Chunky ATC from a mix of different materials. Clay, cardboard, paint, mesh, glue and masking tape. This ended up being no where near what I had envisioned, but I don't have the time to redo it, so I hope you like it! The clay was stamped with Smeared Ink rubber from the Morte set, baked, and then painted (multiple times - i just couldn't get the look i was going for). While the paint was drying I created the rest of my ATC out of cardboard....using various colors of acrylic paint. Masking tape and mesh were added for texture. The main clay piece is inside the cardboard and a window is cut out for the reveal....and the die cut fence placed in front... :)

I really hope you all have a chance to stop by the Design Team Throwdown page to check out all of the awesome submissions by our start design teams! These challenges are A LOT of work so show them some love and be sure to stop back by on Sunday to VOTE for your favorite (Voting Starts: Sunday July 28 by noon)!

I also entered this into the challenge at HDH:

Smeared & Smudged DT Throwdown

Welcome to our third DESIGN TEAM THROWDOWN CHALLENGE on Smeared and Smudged!

To see the official Rules, please go HERE.
This Weeks Theme is:
MINI BOOK

So - here we go. I apologize because this will be a long post and full of photos! I struggled with the planning of this....as most of you know - i am a last minute kinda girl and having to actually plan something out and spend days creating it REALLY threw me for a loop! I've also never really created a book before. I've done a few matchbooks, but that's it....so the construction really baffled me! It was really hard but i'm glad I did it. I'm proud of my creation and hope you like it too!

I started with this little raw wood purse-type thingy.....and decided that I wanted to put my book inside of it. I painted it with black gesso and then hot glued some black furry goodness to it. Next, I lined the inside with foil and also did some foil stripes down the side where I glued some studs (upside-down screws). I also glued screws to the mouth for teeth! Then - the final touch was printing out my creepy red eyes three times, layered them, glossed them and then glued into place. He is the keeper of my book!

Now for the guts! The book images were printed from some of SI's new images from the Hidden set and Broken and Bleeding set. I colored them all with my copic and prisma markers...then added some touches of glossy accents....fussy cut the all out and set them aside until I was ready for them.

The pages were assembled using all kinds of fun stuff. DPs, stickers, brads, foil, vellum, transparency, embossing folders, utee, washi tape....etc... The cover was made from cardboard that I textured with molding paste, painted with black gesso and then poured some colored UTEE over it . I wanted to do more with the cover, but there was so much stuff going on inside the book and then once I placed it inside the case I figured "keep it simple". OK - phew! Here are some pics!

(you can click on any of the photos to see them bigger)

Face of my book keeper

open to shot the book inside and the metallic foil lining

Front cover of the book

He's keeping a close eye on the book - keeping it safe!

First page is embossed laminate that I added some black ink to the raised portions so you could see it better

Second page...I pleated the washi tape at the bottom

KEEP OUT tag pulls out from the bottom

here's a closer look - used glossy to accent her eyes

next page is pretty simple - wash tape at the bottom again and i even added a cool skull hand sticker!

another embossed laminate page, this time it's spider webs

close up

this beauty is my favorite! you can see i used the washi tape again on the side...used glossy to accent the red

pull-out tag that says Trouble with a cool skull

more washi tape and glossy accents on the red

vellum this time with a tag inside

tag says Condemned

That's it! Thanks for looking!
